The Kandinsky Piano Trio was formed in 2002. The trio was soon selected to play in the Manchester Mid day series at the Bridgewater Hall and Making Music Concert Promoters’ Network Schemes National and North West and has since performed all over the UK including Conway Hall and will appear at Kings Place, London on December 13th in the London Chamber Music Series.

Katya Apekisheva - piano
Katya Apekisheva is one of Europe's foremost pianists, in demand internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, and has been described by Gramophone magazine as 'a profoundly gifted artist' who has 'already achieved artistic greatness'.
A prize-winner at the Leeds Piano Competition and Scottish Piano Competition, Katya has appeared as soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras including the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic, the Jerusalem Symphony and the English Chamber Orchestra. She has collaborated with such conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, David Shallon and Alexander Lazarev.
Her solo CD release of Grieg solo piano works this year has received over-whelming critical acclaim. It was also chosen by Classic FM as CD of the week and selected by Gramophone Magazine as Editor's Choice. It received a Rising Star award in International Piano Magazine and was Critic's choice for the year 2008 in Gramophone Magazine.
Equally at home as a chamber musician, Katya collaborates with Janine Jansen, Natalie Clein, Maxim Rysanov, Jack Liebeck, Boris Brovtsyn, Alexei Ogrinchouk and Nicholas Daniel among others. In this capacity she is a regular guest at major chamber music festivals around the world.
Born in Moscow into a family of musicians, she studied at the Gnessin music school for exceptionally gifted children under Ada Traub and Anna Kantor (the teacher of Evgeny Kissin). At the age of 12 she performed a Mozart Concerto with Gnessin School Orchestra which was broadcast by Moscow Classical Radio.
In 1992 Katya continued her studies at the Rubin Music Academy in Jerusalem with Irina Berkovich. There Katya won an America-Israel Scholarship and was awarded second prize at the Young Talents Radio Competition. In 1994 Katya moved to London to study at the Royal College of Music with Irina Zaritskaya and in 1995 she was awarded President's Rose Bowl which was presented to her by HRH Prince of Wales.
In 1996, in addition to her successes in the Leeds and Scottish competitions, Katya won London Philharmonic Orchestra Soloist of the year and also the prestigious Terence Judd Award.
Katya has also collaborated on several recordings with the violinist Jack Liebeck, including a Classical Brit-nominated CD. This season highlights include Concertos with English Chamber Orchestra and Santiago Philharmonic(Chile), performances at Ancona Festival(Italy) , "Music in Country Churches" , Leicester and Utrecht Festivals, USA tour with Nicola Benedetti and Grieg CD release on Quartz Label
Fenella Barton - violin
Fenella Barton enjoys a dynamic career as both a soloist and chamber musician. The Strad hailed her as “gifted and decisive,” and classicalsource.com wrote about her recital at Wigmore Hall with pianist Simone Dinnerstein “(Kreutzer Sonata) In this most powerful of performances, their strong, exuberant pulse drove ahead with exhilarating thrust and bold, brash gaiety… Schubert’s Fantasy was a delight”
As a soloist, she has performed in the Los Angeles Chamber Concert Series, at the Cheltenham, Huddersfield, Aldeburgh and Manchester Festivals, Snape Proms, Dartington Hall, and for the British Council and has given duo recitals at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall with Simone Dinnerstein. Recently she gave a solo recital playing unaccompanied Bach at La Salle Cortot, Paris. She also gave two performances of Bach Partita in D minor in Bath Abbey and at Getty Images, New York alongside a sequence of photos of the Iraq war taken by Pulitzer nominated, American war photographer Chris Hondros. She has recently been featured on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour and In Tune, BBC Radio 3 with Simone Dinnerstein.
As a chamber musician, Ms. Barton led Jane’s Minstrels for ten years, and was co-leader of the Goldberg Ensemble for several years. She has appeared at the BBC Proms, the Queen Elizabeth Hall at festivals in Aldeburgh, Bath, Ultima (Norway), Aarhus (Denmark), Turku (Finland), Italy, and Belgium and on tours of the East and West coasts of the United States. Her collaborators, in addition to pianist Simone Dinnerstein, have included Martin Lovett of the Amadeus Quartet; horn virtuoso Hermann Baumann; and the Gaudier Ensemble (consisting of the principals from the Chamber Orchestra of Europe), with which she performed at the Wigmore Hall and on a tour of Holland. In addition, she appeared with the Vellinger Quartet at the Davos Festival in Switzerland in a concert that was broadcast on Swiss radio and has recorded with the Schubert Ensemble.
Ms. Barton is often invited to guest lead ensembles including the contemporary music group Capricorn and the chamber ensemble Fibonacci Sequence. For fifteen years, she has been a frequent participant in the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove. She currently leads Configure8. Ms. Barton can regularly be heard on broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. Her three recordings with the Minstrels on the NMC record label were highly praised; one was selected as a Record of the Year by Gramophone magazine. Also for NMC, she has recorded the world premiere commercial release of Of Knots and Skeins by Anthony Payne (a piece written for Ms. Barton and Ms. Dinnerstein for their Purcell Room duo recital).
Ms. Barton is a winner of the Fulbright Scholarship , English Speaking Union scholarships and Martin Musical awards.
Alexei Sarkissov - cello
Alexei Sarkissov was born in Moscow in 1974 and started music lessons at the age of five in the Gnessin Special Music School. In 1992 he continued his education in the Russian Academy of Music with Professor Vladimir Tonkha. He gave his first solo recital at the age of ten and following year performed his concerto debut. In 1995 Alexei won a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music with Professor Alexander Boyarsky. Winning all the major college awards while studing there in 1997 he moved to The Guildhall School of Music and Drama to study with Professor Stefan Popov.
Since then, professional engagements have taken him all over Russia, former Soviet Union, Europe and as far as New Zealand. His musical talent was recognised by a string of awards including Grand Prix in "Citta Di Moncalieri" International Competition and 1st Prize at the "Dasinamov" Intenational Competition. Alexei has performed in presence of The Pope John Paul II in Vatican, The former President of Russia Boris Eltsin in Moscow's Kremlin and HRH Prince of Wales. He has recorded for Russian and Italian radio and numerously appeared on international radio and television. HIs CD includes works by Schubert, Schumann, Francouer and Tchaikovsky.
Alexei currently resides in London and maintains a busy schedule of chamber music and solo performances. In the past season he has performed in "Homecoming" Festivals in Moscow and Estonia, recitals series in Italy with pianist Raffaele Moretti and "Il quartetto Casorati" string quartet, Beaminster Festival in UK, Concerts in Madrid with Covent Garden Soloists,Orpheus and Bacchus Festival in France, London's Conway Hall with Kandinsky Piano Trio to name just a few.
